School Bus Service

 

The buses are provided by the Office of Pupil Transportation (OPT). The Office of Pupil Transportation will send you notices about the bus your child will be taking, important information and student rules. 

***Parents should also inform the bus driver/matron of any particular problem your child may have while traveling to school. Remember, travel time is part of your child’s education.

• If bussing issues arise, you may contact your child’s bus company or the OPT Hotline at (718) 392-8855.

Afternoon Drop-Off

Parents who want their children to be dropped at a different place than where he/she is picked up in the mornings must fill out a separate “drop-off” form and contact site secretary. 

Moving

If your family is moving, please notify the school three weeks before you move in order to arrange for new bus transportation. 

Bus Suspensions

If your child is suspended from the bus, you are still responsible for your child’s transportation to and from school during those days. Also, please note that any absences that occur during a bus suspension will count against your child’s overall attendance. 

 

Alternate Modes of Transportation

Access-A-Ride

MTA New York City Transit operates Access-A-Ride, the City’s paratransit system. Access-A-Ride (AAR) provides transportation for people with disabilities who are unable to use public bus or subway service for some or all of their trips. It offers shared ride, door-to-door paratransit service. MTA New York City Transit administers AAR; private carriers under contract to NYC Transit provide service. Service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays.

Fares, Personal Care Attendants, and Guests

The one-way fare for each registered passenger and each guest is the same as the full fare on mass transit. Please pay the driver the exact amount at the time of your ride. AAR drivers do not provide change. Personal Care Attendants (PCAs) ride free when accompanying AAR customers whose IDs indicate they travel with a PCA. One paying guest per trip may accompany the customer.

 

Reduced Fair Metro-Cards

Reduced fare is half fare$1.35 or less with Reduced-Fare MetroCard discounts. If you are 65 years of age or older or have a disability that qualifies, you are eligible. MTA Reduced-Fare MetroCard is personalized with A NAME and photograph and works the same as a regular MetroCard. You can buy unlimited rides or you can pay-per-ride

 

Reduced-fares are also available with any of the following forms of identification: 
· NYC Department of the Aging ID card 
· Medicare card (Medicaid card not accepted) 
· Access-A-Ride ID card 
· MTA Reduced-Fare ID card (pre-1995) 

Reduced-fare benefits are available on: 
· MTA New York City Transit subways and local buses 
· MTA Bus 
· NYC Transit and MTA Bus express buses offer reduced fares during non-rush hours only* 
· MTA Long Island Bus 
· MTA Long Island Rail Road and the MTA Metro-North Railroad anytime except weekday rush hours to New York City terminals.
